Mr Chong Wah Lih, from SMRT Buses Ltd, invited Earth Society to conduct a Global Warming talk at Woodlands Bus Depot on 30 Jan.

On 30 Jan, Earth Society team reached Woodlands Bus Depot at 10.15 am. We conducted a Global Warming talk for 30 staffs from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.

We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). We touched on environmental issues such as Deforestation, the Global usage of food/ water resources and World Hunger.

The staffs listened attentively to the talk and many staffs came forward to get more info after the talk.

Online Biodiversity Loss talk @ CommScope (Oct)

Ms Rachel Rodricks, HR (NEA and SEA), from Commscope invited Earth Society to conduct an online Biodiversity talk for her company in Oct. Commscope was running an INSPIRE series where they invite organizations to share about their stories to their APAC employees over a 30-minutes online session.

The INSPIRE platform is an opportunity for employees at CommScope to listen to the inspiring stories of those who make a positive difference to the community through their visible actions.

On 19 Oct, Earth Society joined in the online INSPIRE session (via MS Teams) at 11.45 am. We conducted an online “Biodiversity Loss” talk for CommScope staffs from 12 pm to 12.50 pm. The INSPIRE session attracted 100 staff across India, South East Asia, North East Asia, India, Australia and New Zealand to attend the session.

In the Biodiversity Loss talk, we presented on Biodiversity Loss, Overfishing, Deforestation, Climate change and Factory farming.

Our planet Earth is facing the 6th Mass Extinction driven by Humans. Up to 1 million species of animals and plants are at the risk of going Extinct. From WWF Living Planet Index report, 68% of wildlife are lost in the past 50 years. The Biodiversity Loss is driven by Overfishing, Deforestation, Habitat loss and Climate change.

We recommended Solutions such as reduce Fish consumption, reduce Animal Factory farming, Meatless Mondays, protection of Ocean and Forest Eco-systems etc. If everyone on the planet consumes resources as Singaporeans do, we will need 3 planets to support our consumption pattern. We need to reduce our consumption pattern to keep our needs within the limit of 1 Earth.

CommScope staffs listened to the talk attentively. They actively participate in the Q and A session at the end of the talk.

On 18 Apr, Earth Society joined in the online MS Teams meeting at 1.45 pm. We conducted a Global Warming talk for 40 staffs from 2 pm to 3 pm. We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). GW talk @ Good Shepherd (Nov)

Mdm Poh Cheng, from Good Shepherd Mission, invited Earth Society to conduct a Global Warming talk for their preschool teachers on 21 Nov. They hope to inculcate ecological consciousness in their staff and make it a way of life.   

On 21 Nov, Earth Society team reached Good Shepherd Mission (Toa Payoh Center) at 12 pm. We conducted a Global Warming talk for 50 preschool teachers from 12.15 pm to 1.15 pm. We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). We also touched on environmental issues such as Deforestation and World Hunger.

The preschool teachers listened attentively to the talk. After the talk, many teachers were interested in our Climate change Booklets which provided more info on Climate change.

Biodiversity Loss talk @ Engie South East Asia (Jun)

Ms Corin Tan, Asst Training Manager in Engie South East Asia, invited Earth Society to conduct a Biodiversity Loss talk for their staffs on 09 Jun. This is the 2^nd year that Engie South East Asia invited us to conduct a talk for their staffs. The company especially catered Veg meals for the staffs who attended the talk.

On 09 Jun, Earth Society team reached Engie South East Asia at 11.30 am. We conducted a Biodiversity Loss talk for about 40 staffs on-site from 12 pm to 1 pm. The session was joined by another 90 staff online.

We presented on Biodiversity Loss, Overfishing, Deforestation, Climate change and Factory farming. From World Wildlife Fund 2020 Living Planet Index report, global wildlife population has decreased by 68% in the past 50 years. This is due to deforestation, hunting, overfishing and pollution.

Human’s consumption of the world’s resources now exceeds the world’s capacity to regenerate by 56%. (We are using the eqv of 1.56 planets to support our activities). We need to Reduce fishing, reduce Factory farming, reduce Consumption, support Meatless Mondays and Conserve Nature to protect the Biodiversity on our Planet.

Env/ Health talk @ LGT Bank (May)

On 20 May 2022, LGT Bank (Singapore) Ltd. (LGT Bank) kicked off its first "Lunch and Learn" series with a talk on "Compassion and Veganism". Mr CK Low from Earth Society spoke on the impact of meat on the environment and the health benefits of a vegan diet. 

During this session, Mr Chin-Mong Koh, Executive Director, LGT Bank, shared his personal vegan journey and how adopting a vegan diet has led to positive health benefits. 

Mr Low started his presentation with the impact of producing meat on the environment. Livestock farming contributes to 15% of the world's greenhouse gas, uses 70% of the world's agricultural land and consumes more than 50% of the world's crops. It takes 2 kg to 10 kg of grains to produce 1 kg of chicken/pork/beef. Producing 1 kg of vegetables and rice uses 200 litres to 2,500 litres of water, while 1 kg of meat (chicken/pork/ beef) uses 4,300 litres to 15,400 litres of water. The United Nations (UN) has recommended that developed nations cut their meat consumption by half to reduce greenhouse gas and conserve the world's food and water resources.

In addition, Mr Low highlighted the drawbacks of overeating meat versus the healthy benefits of transitioning to a vegan diet. High meat consumption is linked to obesity and increases heart disease and cancer risk. The World Health Organization (WHO) report shows that eating 50 g of processed meat (e.g. one hot dog) every day increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%. Moreover, the animals produced by factory farms live in congested conditions and are fed with growth hormones, antibiotics and grains. In contrast, vegetables/plants are rich in fibre, protein, vitamins and nutrients. Some doctors in the USA promote the Whole-Food, Plant-based diet to prevent/ reduce chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Even athletes such as bodybuilders, Olympic cyclists and marathon runners show improved sports performance when changing to a plant-based diet. Mr Low encouraged the staff to adopt Meatless Mondays and gradually increase the number of vegan days for health and the planet.

After the talk, Mr Koh shared the health benefits of adopting a vegan diet (e.g. reduced body aches, no more joint pains, better skin complexion). He also shared that vegan food is delicious and encouraged the staff to adopt two vegan days a week to better health and protect the environment. 

The company especially catered Vegan Burgers (from VeganBurg) for the 70 employees who attended the event. The employees enjoyed the Vegan Burger lunch very much, were engaged during the presentations, and actively participated in the Question and Answer session.

Online GW talk for NEA (Nov)

Ms Sindhusha, from Vector Control, Environmental Public Health Ops Group, in National Environment Agency (NEA), invited Earth Society to conduct an online Global Warming/ Zoonotic disease Talk for their staffs on 17 Nov. This is the 3^rd time NEA invited us to conduct a talk for their staff in 2020-21.

On 17 Nov, Earth Society team joined Mr Sindhusha online (via MS Teams platform) at 2.45 pm. We conducted a Global Warming / Zoonotic disease talk for about 50 staffs from 3 pm to 4 pm. 

We presented an update of the Disasters that happen due to Climate change (e.g. 6 months of forest fires in Australia in 2020, 1 month of rain fall on 01 Jan 2021 in Singapore etc ) We touched on SG Green Plan, Meatless Monday and reduce meat consumption to reduce Climate change and preserve the forest, food and water resources on the planet.

For Zoonotic diseases, we show that 75% of emerging diseases are Zoonotic diseases (transmitted from animals to human).

We showed that the World need to reduce animal factory farm to reduce diseases from farmed animals (such as Bird flu and Swine flu).

We shared that COVID-19 was spread from bats to pangolins and then to humans.

To prevent future pandemics, the World should stop wild life trade, stop eating wild animals and preserve the Natural habitats of wild animals. (e.g. Forest, Oceans)

On 10 Jun, Earth Society team joined Mr Danny (via MS Teams platform) at 10.45 am. We conducted a Biodiversity Loss talk for about 200 staffs from 11 am to 12 pm. 

We presented on Overfishing, Deforestation, Climate change, Loss in Biodiversity and Factory farming. We featured WWF 2020 Living Planet Index report which shows that 68% of wildlife are lost from 1970s to 2016. We touched on issues such as reduce Fish consumption, reduce Factory farming, Veggie days and UNEP ‘Planetary Health Diet’. We also showed that if everyone on the planet consumes resources as Singaporeans do, we will need 3 planets to sustain our consumption habits. We need to reduce our consumption pattern to keep it within the limits of 1 planet.

The talk is part of the Earth Hour event that the company organized. This is the 2^nd time Infineon Technologies invited us to conduct a talk for their staffs.

On 26 Mar, Earth Society team joined Mr Bernard (via Webex platform) at 9.45 am. We conducted a Biodiversity Loss talk for about 200 staffs from 10.20 am to 11 am. We presented on Overfishing, Deforestation, Climate change, Loss in Biodiversity and Factory farming. It had been a great impactful morning and the response we received was overwhelming. 50 mins into the session, we still have 197 participants with us.”

During this pandemic period, we are glad that more companies are organizing Green events online to promote Environmental awareness and encourage their staffs to adopt a more sustainable way of Living.

Online Biodiversity Loss talk for NEA (Dec)

Mr Tay Kwang Hong, from Ops Support Unit in National Environment Agency (NEA), invited Earth Society to conduct an online Biodiversity Loss Talk for their staffs on 09 Dec. This is the 2^nd time NEA invited us to conduct a talk for their staff in 2020.

On 09 Dec, Earth Society team joined Mr Tay online (via Zoom platform) at 3.15 pm. 

We conducted a Biodiversity Loss talk for about 40 staffs from 3.30 pm to 4.40 pm.  

We presented on Overfishing, Deforestation, Climate change, Loss in Biodiversity and Factory farming. We also touched on issues such as No Shark fin, reduce Factory farming, Veggie days and UNEP ‘Planetary Health Diet’. We also introduced various Environmental heros to the participants.

NEA staffs listened attentively to the talk and participated actively in the Q&A at the end of the talk.

Feedback from NEA Staffs:

1) It has given me greater insights on the methods that individuals can use to contribute to minimise Biodiversity Loss.

2) Thanks for the informative talk. I will recommend my colleagues to attend talks like this in the future.

3) I will practise meatless Monday and will try to influence my friends and family too as it is not too challenging to start as a first step.

4) I will try to eat less meat so I can leave some food for the next generation.

5) My perspectives of impossible meat has changed. I will probably try it soon.

Online GW talk and Biodiversity Loss talk for IRAS (Nov)

Ms Zhuang Jiayang, Principal Data Management Officer in Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), invited Earth Society to conduct 2 online Environment Talks for their staffs during their IRAS Green Week event. IRAS organized a Green Week from 09 Nov to 13 Nov to promote environmental awareness and eco-friendly life style, such as Bring your own container, reduce plastic usage etc. This is the 3^rd year IRAS invited us to conduct talks for their staffs.

Earth Society supported their Green Week event by conducting 2 online talks for the staffs. We conduct a Global Warming Zoom talk for 30 staffs on 09 Nov. We conducted another Biodiversity Loss/ Environmental Conservation talk for 40 staffs on 13 Nov. Both talks are conducted from 12 pm to 1 pm.

In the Biodiversity Loss talk, we presented on Overfishing in our Oceans, Deforestation on our Land, Green House Gas emissions in our Atmosphere, Loss in Biodiversity and Factory farming. We also touched on issues such as No Shark fin, reduce Factory farming, Veggie days and UNEP ‘Planetary Health Diet’. We introduced various environmental heros to the participants. We introduced Sea Shepherd (protect the Ocean), Sharksavers (protect the Sharks), Dr Jane Goodall (protect the Rainforest) and Dr Jame Hansen (reduce Global Warming) in the talk. IRAS officers listen attentively to the talk and many staffs requested us to share our slides with them after the talk.

IRAS recorded the 2 Zoom talks and placed it in their website so that staffs who could not attend the online talks could watch and benefit from the talks after the event.

Good intro to raise awareness on the impact of our daily actions on our environment. Appreciated the quick tips given by speaker. It gave everyone an opportunity to start small in saving the environment (e.g. meatless Monday concept) I tried it out and I hope to sustain the weekly “ritual”. It was a very informative talk to learn facts on how our current way of living is severely draining the Earth’s resources in an irreversible way. The speakers’ tips are constantly on my mind now and I have started making some small personal changes e.g. avoid eating large fishes, reduce usage of plastics whenever possible etc. Lifestyle changes are always hard so hopefully I can sustain these practices!

Online GW talk for Saint Gobain Pte Ltd (Oct)

Ms Desy Ang, from Saint Gobain (Sg) Pte Ltd, invited Earth Society to conduct an online Global Warming talk for their staffs on 13 Oct. As this is the first time a company used Microsoft Teams platform to invite us, we arranged with the company to have a trial test before the actual presentation itself.

On 13 Oct, Earth Society team joined Ms Desy Ang online via Microsoft Teams at 9.45 am. By 10 am, 20 Saint Gobain staffs joined in the platform to attend the talk.

We conducted a Global Warming talk for Saint Gobain staffs from 10 am to 11 am. We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). The staffs listened attentively to the talk.

After the talk, Ms Desy sent us some feedbacks for the talk:

“Each and every one can contribute to the sustainability of our planet. This talk is a good reminder to all of us.”

“I feel more motivated to have a balance diet as suggested by Health Promotion Board.”

Online GW talk for Galmon Pte Ltd (Aug)

Mr Ivan Lim, Assist Manager (After-sales product support Department), in Galmon Pte Ltd, invited Earth Society to conduct a 2 Global Warming talks (1 Chinese talk and 1 English talk) for their staffs on 19 Aug.

On 19 Aug, Earth Society team joined Mr Ivan Lim online via Zoom at 9 am. By 9.15 am, 24 Galmon staffs joined in the platform to attend the talk.

We conducted a Chinese Global Warming talk for 24 Galmon staffs from 9.15 am to 10.15 am. We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). The staffs listened attentively to the talk. After the talk, a Galmon staff gave a short Chinese briefing on the COVID-19 measures for the company.

At 10.30 am, we conducted an English Global Warming talk for another batch of staffs. 26 Galmon staffs joined us online for the English presentation. We completed the presentation at 11.30 am.

After the talk, Mr Ivan Lim sent us an email to comment on the talks: “It was a great presentation. The message are well conversed and the slides / videos are excellent.”
