Forum @ Lasalle College (Nov)


Professor Michael Earley, Dean of Performing Arts in Lasalle College of the Arts, invited Earth Society to participate in their “Urgency: A Forum for Change” event on 24 Nov.

Prof Michael invited us to be part of a 4-person panellists to speak on the issue of Climate change and answer the questions from the audience.

The Forum panelists includes :
Professor Michael Earley, Dean of Performing Arts, Lasalle
David Glass, Director and Writer of “Requiem for Change” theatre play
Low Chip Khoon, Vice President, Earth Society (Singapore)
Peter Godfrey, Managing Director APAC (The Energy Institute)



On 24 Nov, Earth Society team reached Lasalle College (Singapore Airlines Theatre) at 3.30 pm. We participated in the ‘Urgency’ Forum from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

During the forum, we presented an overview of the UN IPCC Oct Special Report:: “Global Warming of 1.5 Deg C” and spoke of the urgency to reduce green house gas to curb climate change. We recommended climate actions such as reducing meat consumption, adopting veggie days to help to reduce individual carbon footprint and preserve the food and water resources on the planet. Mr Peter Godfrey spoke on reducing energy usage, renewable energy and a circular economy to reduce climate change while Mr David Glass spoke on Capitalism’s impact on Climate change. We had a fruitful discussion with 30 people who attended the forum.

We are glad that Lasalle college has organized a Climate change forum and hope that more Arts colleges will join in to raise the public’s awareness on environmental protection.

Company talk @ CNBC and SLA (Nov)

Mr Clarence Chen, Communications Manager in CNBC International, invited Earth Society to conduct a company talk for CNBC and NBC Universal staffs on 20 Nov.

On 20 Nov, Earth Society team reached CNBC at 3.15 pm. We conducted a Global Warming talk for 30 staffs from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm. We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs).

CNBC/ NBC Uni staffs listened attentively to the talk and came forward to provide some feedback at the end of the event.
                                                             


Mr Ngoh Jie Rui, Senior Executive in Singapore Land Authority (SLA), invited Earth Society to conduct a company lunch talk for the staffs on 21 Nov.

On 21 Nov, Earth Society team conducted a Global Warming talk for 50 staffs from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm. SLA staffs listened attentively to the talk. At the end of the talk, many staffs came forward to sign up on our email list to receive more info on Climate change.

Booth @ Central Clean and Green Singapore (Nov)

Mr Osborne Chan, Senior Executive (3P Partnership), in National Environment Agency (NEA), invited Earth Society to participate in their Central Clean and Green Singapore Carnival in Nov.

The Carnival was jointly organized by NEA and Central Singapore Community Development Council (CS CDC). This district-level carnival aims to educate the public on environmental issues such as anti-littering, energy efficiency, 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and Climate action.

The Carnival was a 2 day event (17 to 18 Nov) held at a covered plaza at Bishan Street. There were Exhibition panels, hands-on workshops, educational booths, stage performances/ talks at the event. Ms Denise Phua, Mayor, Central Singapore District was the Guest of Honour for the event. 


Earth society supported the event by setting up an educational booth at the event. Other organizations that participated in the event included: Embrace the Waste, Plastic-Lite SG, LepakinSg, Zero Waste and various primary school groups.

On 17 Nov, Earth Society volunteers set up a booth at the Clean and Green Carnival at 9.30 am. At our booth, we let the participants play a ‘GHG and Water usage’ Quiz. Participants learnt about the amount of Green House Gas (GHG) emitted to produce certain type of food as they completed the Quiz. They also learn about the amount of water needed to produce different types of food. Mr Osborne Chan was pleasantly surprised by our Quiz as one of the NEA Display panel at the event showed the answers to our Quiz. 

We manned the booth from 9.30 am to 5 pm.

NEA organized many programs on the stage area throughout the 2-day event. There were Environmental skits, Acapella singing, Environmental talks and Quizzes on the stage. Earth Society conducted 2 Global Warming talks at the stage. We presented on the effects of Global Warming on the planet and recommend ways to reduce Climate change (Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs).

We are glad that NEA and CDC are organizing more carnivals to promote Eco-living this year. We hope these carnivals will encourage Singaporeans to take more Climate Actions to protect the Earth and conserve the food and water resources on the planet.

GW talk @ Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah (Nov)


Mdm Balkis Hassan, a teacher in Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah (Pupil Development Department), invited Earth Society to conduct a Global Warming talk for the school on 12 Nov. This is the first time we are invited to a Madrasah to conduct a talk.

On 12 Nov, Earth Society team reached Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah at 7.55 am. We conducted a Global Warming talk for 200 primary to lower secondary level students from 8.15 am 9 am. 

We presented on how Global Warming is affecting the world and showcased various solutions to climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). Students listened attentively to the talk.

We left the school after the talk.

Booth @ Punggol 21 Community Club (Nov)


Ms Seema Menon, Organising Committee in Punggol 21 Community Club, invited Earth Society to set up a booth at their Eco Carnival event held at Punggol CC on 03 Nov.

The Eco Carnival was organized by Punggol 21 CCMC and National Environment Agency (NEA) to promote environmental awareness and appreciation among the families residing in Punggol 21 Constituency. Mr Ng Chee Meng, Minister, Prime Minister's Office, is the Guest of Honour for this event.

Other organizations that participated in the event include:  WWF, Food Bank, Tzu Chi Foundation, NTU Earthlink and various primary and secondary school groups.

On 03 Nov, Earth Society volunteers set up a booth at the Eco carnival at 9.30 am.
At our booth, we let the participants play a ‘GHG & Water usage’ Quiz. Participants learnt about the amount of Green House Gas (GHG) emitted to produce certain type of food as they completed the Quiz. They also learn about the amount of water needed to produce different types of food.

We distributed Eco-website flyer and Climate Change booklet to interested participants at our booth. Many participants signed up in our email list to receive more information on environmental protection.

Assembly talk @ Commonwealth Secondary and Raffles Girls School (Oct)

Mr Simon Lew, a teacher in Commonwealth Secondary, invited Earth Society to conduct an Assembly talk for the school on 15 Oct.

On 15 Oct, Earth Society team reached Commonwealth Secondary at 8 am. We conducted a Global Warming Assembly talk for Sec 1 to Sec 3 students from 8.15 am to 8.45 am. We presented on how Global Warming is affecting the world and showcased various solutions to climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). Students listened attentively to the talk.



Ms Adeline Quek, Administration Executive in Raffles Girls School, invited Earth Society to conduct an Assembly talk for the lower secondary students on 25 Oct. This is the 2nd year Raffles Girls School invited us to speak to their students.

On 25 Oct, Earth Society team reached Raffles Girls School at 10 am. We conducted a Global Warming Assembly talk for Sec 1 and Sec 2 students from 10.15 am to 11.15 am. Students listened attentively to the talk and participated actively in the Quiz at the end of the talk. We left the school after the talk.

Booth @ Yio Chu Kang Secondary (Oct)

Yio Chu Kang Secondary held a Social outreach : Upcycling exhibition in the school from 23 to 25 Oct. Ms Chen Hui Jun, Subject Head (Humanities), invited Earth Society to participate in their outreach event to spread awareness on environmental protection.

0n 24 Oct, Earth Society team set up and manned a booth at Yio Chu Kang Secondary from 9.45 am to 11 am. Students who visited our booth can play a board quiz on the green house gas produced when producing different types of food. We also distributed “Eco-website” leaflets and “Green and Healthy Monday” leaflets to students. We left the school after the event.


Assembly talk @ Tampines North and Woodgrove Primary (Oct/ Nov)

Mr Steven Goh, a teacher in Tampines North Primary, invited Earth Society to conduct an Assembly talk for the school cohort on 08 Oct.

On 08 Oct, Earth Society team reached Tampines North Primary at 10.35 am. We conducted a Global Warming Assembly talk for P1 to P6 students from 10.50 am to 11.20 am. We presented on how Global warming is affecting the world and showcased various solutions to climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). Teachers and students listened attentively to the talk.




Ms Fatin Suhaila, Level Head (Science) in Woodgrove Primary, invited Earth Society to conduct an Assembly talk for the lower primary students on 05 Nov.

On 05 Nov, Earth Society team reached Woodgrove Primaryat 12.45 pm. We conducted a Global Warming Assembly talk for P1 and P2 students from 1 pm to 1.30 pm. We left the school after the talk.
