EarthFest 2019 @ Marina Barrage (Jan)

Michael Broadhead, organizer of EarthFest sustainability festival, invited Earth Society to participate in the event as an Educational partner. EarthFest was held at Marina Barrage on 20 Jan (Sun) from 11 am to 4.30 pm. This is the 4th year we participated in this Eco-event.

EarthFest was an Eco-Carnival designed to be sustainable, fun, and inspirational for all ages ! The event featured a food fair of delicious international planet-friendly foods, a Farmer’s Market of local businesses with sustainable products, various Educational booths with engaging low-carbon games, free stage performances as well as other programs such as Talks, Eco-screenings etc. The event had something for everyone.

EarthFest attracted 130 organizations and businesses to participate in the event. NGOs such as Green Monday, Sea Shepherd, Nature Society, PM Haze and Animal Allies set up booths during the event to inform the participants of issues such as Climate change, Deforestation, overfishing and biodiversity losses. The Eco-carnival gave the attendees a comprehensive view of Sustainability in Singapore.

On 20 Jan, Earth Society members reached Marina Barrage at 10.30am. We set up a booth to showcase the issue of Deforestation in the world. Deforestation in Malaysia and Indonesia are mainly due to palm oil plantation while Deforestation in Brazil Amazon is mainly due to cattle ranching and the production of soya bean. Many participants were surprised to learn that 65% of Deforestation in Brazil Amazon is due to cattle ranching and that eating beef contributes to Deforestation in the world.

Our team also visited the Grand Hyatt Hotel container stall which sold the Beyond Meat sausage hot dog. This was the first time we tasted the vegan "Beyond Meat" product from USA and it tasted delicious !
