Biodiversity Loss talk @ Yuan Ching Secondary (Aug)

Mr Chen Zhanjiang from Yuan Ching Secondary
invited Earth Society to conduct a Biodiversity Loss talk for their students on 12 Aug. This is the 3rd time Yuan Ching Secondary invited us to conduct a talk for their students.

On 12 Aug, Earth Society team reached Yuan Ching Secondary at 11.25 am. We conducted a Biodiversity Loss talk for the Sec 3 to Sec 5 students from 11.40 am to 12.25 pm. We presented on Biodiversity Loss, Overfishing, Deforestation, Climate change and Factory farming. We featured WWF 2020 Living Planet Index report which shows that 68% of wildlife were lost from 1970s to 2016. We touched on issues such as reduce Fish consumption, reduce Factory farming, Meatless Mondays and conservation of the world’s ocean and forest. We also showed that if everyone on the planet consumes resources as Singaporeans do, we will need 3 planets to sustain our consumption habits. We need to reduce our consumption pattern to keep it within the limits of 1 planet. Teachers and students listened attentively to the talk.

Feedback from students:

"Our actions have disastrous effects on the planet like destroying wildlife, ecosystems and causing extinctions. We also eat a lot of food per year, a lot more than we think. I can help to spread awareness and also reduce my consumption of animal products (fish/livestock)." - Zi Tao, 3I

"I learned if I participate in Meatless Mondays for a year, I will save 28 animals' lives. I can participate in Meatless Mondays and eat less meat by downloading happycow app and going to vegan restaurants around me." - Melissa, 4E

"Our personal actions can impact the earth in a negative way. I have decided to be vegetarian 3 to 4 times a week in efforts of saving the Earth." - Pranavan, 4C
