Hwa Chong Institution (College) Green Council organises a Clean and Green
week every year. During the week, HCI Green Council organizes programs to
expose students to the multitude of environmental issues that humans face,
introduce environmental conservation efforts and encourage students to adopt
more environmentally-friendly habits to reduce their impact on the environment.
As part of the Clean and Green Week program this year, Ms
Nicole Han, HCI Green Council member, invited
Earth Society to conduct a Global Warming talk for the JC1 and JC 2 students on
21 Apr.
On 21 Apr, Earth Society team reached Hwa Chong Institution at 3.10
pm. Ms Nicole Han met us at the gate and escorted us to the HCI auditorium. We
conducted a Global Warming talk for the JC 1 and JC 2 students from 3.30 to 4 pm.
We presented on how Global warming is
affecting the world and showcased various solutions to climate change. (Plant
trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs.)
After
the talk, we pass some feedback forms to the Green Council members for them to
compile some feedback for the talk. Ms Nicole Han helped to collate the
feedback and send them to us via email.
Students’ Feedback:
The speaker was
extremely knowledgeable, and made an extremely great impact on me, especially
when he explained the consequences of humans' destructive actions on the
Arctic. He incorporated short videos into the speech, and was thus able to hold
the attention of the crowd well. The brochures given out were also very
effective as students could relate to its contents, and some peers have
actually talked about going more veggie after reading the brochure, which I
felt was a good start and first step to reducing agricultural demands in
society. I am really thankful and appreciative of this seminar by Earth Society,
as it provides a more concrete platform for students to learn how to play a
part in protecting Mother Earth.

I find the talk
useful because it gives me new fascinating information on global warming.
Overall, it is a good talk with a good use of videos to explain a point,
although personally I feel that there is an information overload.
