EarthFest @ Marina Barrage (Feb)

Michael Broadhead, organizer of EarthFest sustainability festival, invited Earth Society to participate in the event as an Educational partner. EarthFest was held at Marina Barrage on 12 Feb (Sun) from 11 am to 3.30 pm. This is the 2nd time we participated in this Eco-event.

Earthfest partnered with over 50 organizations and businesses to create a carnival that gave people a comprehensive view of sustainability. EarthFest invited many environment NGOs such as Sea Shepherd, Nature Society, PM Haze and Animal Allies to set up booths during the event to inform the participants of issues such as Climate change, Deforestation, overfishing and biodiversity losses.

On 12 Feb, Earth Society members reached Marina Barrage at 10.30am. We set up a booth to showcase the issue of Deforestation in the world. Deforestation in Malaysia and Indonesia are mainly due to palm oil plantation while Deforestation in Brazil Amazon is mainly due to cattle ranching and the production of soya bean. Many participants were surprised to learn that 65% of Deforestation in Brazil Amazon is due to cattle ranching and that eating beef contributes to Deforestation in the world.

The EarthFest carnival had a Farmers Market section where Fireflies Health farm and Quan Fa Organic farm sold their organic vegetables to participants. Other Green businesses such as Little Green Kitchen, VeganBurg, Handmade heros, Suka House and Brownice set up booths during the event to sell their eco-friendly products.
