In celebration of United Nation’s World Environment Day, ITE
College East invited Earth Society to participate in their Eco-event on 31 May.
This year’s theme for World Environment Day is “Think, Eat, Save”. UN encourages the people in the world to become more aware of the environmental impact of our individual food choice and empowers us to make informed decisions to reduce our daily ‘food print’.
In accordance to this theme, ITE College East invited Celebrity Artist
Mr Edmund Chen (Chen Zi Cai) and Mrs Peggy Ong, CEO of Pro-Teach Education
Group, to present to 300 ITE students on the topic of environmental protection.
Mr Edmund Chen started the session by asking the students what are
their dreams. He then described what he dreamt about when he was young and what
steps he took to achieve his dreams as an actor, a father, an artist and an
author. He was concern about the environment and explained that if we do not
take good care of the environment, the students may not be able to achieve what
they dream about in a depleted world.
Mrs Peggy Ong, a member of Earth Society, presented on the benefits of a veggie diet on health, environment and animal welfare. She showed the environmental impacts a heavy meat diet have on the world’s food and water resources and encouraged the students to adopt meatless days to help the environment.
The program ended with a veggie buffet lunch for the management
team, teachers and student leaders who attended the event.
