NTU Earthlink set up a game station for the students participating in the event. Students will first collect a game card from Earthlink game station. Then they have to visit the different booths to learn about how to help the environment. They would complete various activities at the booths to earn stamps on the card. When the students get 9 stamps, they would win a goodie bag and a chance to join in a Lucky Draw. The grand prize of the Lucky Draw is an ipad! (a great attraction for the students!)

At our booth, students have to watch a 2 mins video clip on “How Global Warming is affecting the world?” Then, they will answer 2 questions based on the video to get a stamp in the card. Because of this activity, many students learn about the effects of climate change on the environment and ways to protect the environment.

At the end of the 3 day event, many students showed interest in the topic of Climate change and gladly sign up in our email list to receive more information on environmental protection.

Clean & Green Carnival @ Serangoon (27 Oct)

National Environment Agency (NEA), South East Community Development Council (SE CDC), PUB and NParks jointly organized the Clean & Green Singapore (CGS) Carnival 2014.

This year, the CGS Carnival @ Serangoon was held in the open field between Braddell Heights CC and NEX Shopping Mall on 26 & 27 Oct.

On 27 Oct, Earth Society members attended the Clean and Green Carnival.

The Carnival featured many exhibits which showcased environment themes such as Climate change, energy and water usage, food waste etc.

There was one exhibit which showed that Climate change is affecting Singapore through heavier rainfalls and flash floods. A graph shows that the Annual number of days that Singapore experience heavier rainfall has increased from an average of 6 days in the 1980s to 1990s to an average of 10 or more days in the 2000s to 2010s.

Many schools set up booths in the carnival to showcase the green practices that they adopted to help the environment. Environmental skits performed by actors from “The Voice” company informed the audience on ways to reduce wastage, use less energy and take actions to help the Earth.

Earth Society members visited the exhibits / booths and network with the schools and environment groups in the carnival. We had a wonderful time in the carnival and sincerely hope that the message of environmental protection would spread far and wide among the people in Singapore.
