Mr Tan Hoe Sing, Chairman of Bishan North Zone 1 RC, invited Earth
Society to participate in their “One Earth, Save it” Earth Hour event on 27 Mar.
Due to the pandemic situation, the “One Earth, Save it” event was
held online via the Zoom platform. The event was hosted by 2 volunteers wearing
the WWF Earth hour logo. Marymount residents were invited to join the event
online from 8 pm to 9.15 pm.
Mdm Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State in both Ministry of
Education and Ministry of Manpower, MP for Marymount SMC, gave an opening address
entitled ‘Speak up for Nature’ during the Zoom event.
Earth Society conducted a 5 mins presentation on Global Warming
during the event. We gave a brief overview of how Climate change is affecting the
world and encourage our citizen to reduce meat consumption, support Meatless
Mondays to reduce Climate change.
Marymount residents shared on their Eco-efforts such as conducting
up-cycling workshops, supporting NEA’s ‘Cash for Trash’ program, recycling
electronic waste and collecting recyclables (e.g. plastic bottles, cardboards
etc).
Music Heart Band group provided online live singing to entertain
the residents. Children from PCF Sparkletots provided online performance for
the residents.
After the event, Mr Tan Hoe Sing requested Earth Society to record
a 15 min video presentation on Global Warming. The video was placed in 'Bishan North Zone 1' Facebook

We are glad that more grass roots organizations are organizing
Green events online to spread the Eco-message to the residents. We hope the green
message can spread far and wide among the residents in Singapore.
