GW Talk @ NTU Orientation Camp (Aug)

Mr Eugene Koh, Events Director in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), invited Earth Society to conduct a Global Warming talk for 200 students attending an Orientation camp at NTU on 08 Aug.

Mr Eugene is the Events Director of the Nanyang Business School (NBS) Inflammaré Orientation Committee at NTU. The Inflammaré Orientation camp is held at NTU Gaia building. The objective of the talk is to instil a sense of social responsibility in their new students, encouraging them to give back to the community and embrace sustainable practices.

On 08 Aug, Earth Society team reached NTU Gaia at 2.30 pm. We conducted a Global Warming talk for 200 university students attending the Orientation Camp from 2.45 pm to 3.30 pm.

We presented on how Global Warming is affecting the world (Droughts, Forest fires, Flash floods in Singapore, Arctic Ice melt etc). We showcased various Solutions to Climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). We touched on environmental issues such as Deforestation, the Global usage of food/ water resources and World Hunger.

NTU students listened attentively to the talk and some students approached us to get more info after the talk.

We are glad that NTU campus is organizing Eco-programs for their students to encourage them to adopt sustainable practices. Let’s hope the green message spread far and wide in the Universities in Singapore.

Ms Vivian Sng, Senior Manager (P and C Business Partner) of Surbana Jurong, invited Earth Society to set up a booth and conduct a talk at their Sustainability Week event on 03 Jun 2024. The Sustainability Week is held at SJ Campus with a bazaar to promote environmental awareness. This is the second time Surbana Jurong invited us to participate in their events.

On 03 Jun, Earth Society team reached SJ Campus 10.45 am. We set up a booth at their bazaar. At our booth, participants may watch some video clips on Climate change. We also distributed Eco-website flyers, SMTV flyers and Climate Change booklets to participants of the event. We manned the booth from 11 am to 2.30 pm.

Surbana Jurong also invited us to conduct a Global Warming talk for their participants from 12 pm to 1 pm. We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). We touched on environmental issues such as the Global usage of food/ water resources and World Hunger. We also spoke about the Destruction of Forest Ecosystems, which will lead to increase interaction between wild animals and humans and may increase the risk of zoonotic diseases spreading from animals to humans (such as COVID-19).

Participants actively listened to the talk. After the talk, many participants visited our booth to get more info on environmental protection.
