Mr Steven Neo, a teacher in Alexandra Primary, invited Earth Society to conduct an online Global Warming talk for the P3 students on 20 Jan.,

On 20 Jan, Earth Society joined in the online Zoom meeting at 8.45 am. We conducted a Global Warming talk for 6 classes of P3 students from 9 am to 9.30 am. We presented on the effects of Climate change on the world and showcased various solutions that scientists recommended to curb climate change. (Plant trees, Eat less meat, Green energy and 3Rs). Teachers and students listened attentively to the talk.

After the talk, Mr Steven Neo helped to gather some feedback from the teachers and send the feedback to us via email.

“Thank you for the Environmental talk today. Very good feedback were given.

The content Earth Society delivered was very informative and relevant to our students. The videos clips were captivating and informative as pictures and videos speak a thousand words.

The sharing and suggestions on ways for our students to do their part, resonated with our students and give them more insights on what they can do to save our planet Earth.”

Eco-Instagram Project with Temasek Polytechnic Students (Nov 20 to Jan 21)

In Nov 2020, student groups from Temasek Polytechnic wrote to Earth Society to express interest to work with Earth Society on a project in their Global Citizenship and Community Development (GCCD) module. The student groups were interested to create Eco-websites to raise awareness about Climate change through the use of social media. This is the 2nd time Temasek Polytechnic student groups write to invite us to participate in their projects.

We corresponded with the students on their projects. A student group, ‘Earth Huggers’, work with us for 2 months to create an Instagram Page to spread awareness on Climate change. On their Instagram Page, they created animations, slideshows on Climate change and introduce Climate-friendly actions such as supporting Meatless Mondays to their readers.

The following is the “Earth Huggers” Instagram page created by the students:

https://www.instagram.com/earthhuggers_sg/

Earth Society collaborated with Earth Huggers via Zoom and email from Nov 20 to Jan 21.

At the end of the project, the group’s team leader, Ms Richelle Tan commented :

“Thank you so much for allowing us to work with Earth Society! It has been a great experience and my group and I are very grateful for this opportunity to spread awareness on Climate change. We also learnt new things ourselves such as Meatless Monday, and we will encourage people around us to adopt the lifestyle as well! We hope that more students will also join in the sustainable lifestyle to protect the earth we live in together. We sincerely thank Earth Society for your help in the project! ”

We are glad that many students are taking on Eco-friendly projects to play a part in protecting the environment. We hope more students will join in the environmental movement to protect the Earth and create a sustainable future for everyone on the planet.

1) It has given me greater insights on the methods that individuals can use to contribute to minimise Biodiversity Loss.

2) Thanks for the informative talk. I will recommend my colleagues to attend talks like this in the future.

3) I will practise meatless Monday and will try to influence my friends and family too as it is not too challenging to start as a first step.

4) I will try to eat less meat so I can leave some food for the next generation.

5) My perspectives of impossible meat has changed. I will probably try it soon.
