Ms Deepa, from Hemispheres Foundation, invited Earth Society to
set up a booth at their Global Youth Summit/ GYS Green Village” event held at National Library Plaza from 28 Jun to 01 Jul.
The Global Youth Summit (GYS) 2018 is
a youth-led global platform on sustainable development with the
participation of more than 300 registered delegates in the Asia Pacific region.
The event is organized by Hemispheres Foundation and supported by the Ministry
of the Environment and Water Resources, National Library Board, National
Environment Agency and Youth Groups.
GYS Green Village is an initiative
under the GYS, with the aim of educating youth and the public about the
negative environmental impacts on society and the steps that individuals can
take to improve the situation.
Earth
Society volunteers set up and man a booth at GYS Green Village during the 4-day
event. We also conducted 2 Global Warming talks at the event.
At our booth, we let the
participants play a ‘GHG and Water usage’ Quiz. Participants learnt about the amount
of Green House Gas (GHG) emitted to produce certain type of food as they
completed the Quiz. They also learn about the amount of water needed to produce
different types of food.
We distributed Eco-website flyer and Climate
Change booklet to interested participants at our booth. Many participants
showed interest in ways to reduce global warming and signed up in our email
list to receive more information on environmental protection.
