Assembly talk @ Gan Eng Seng Primary (11 Jul)

As part of Gan Eng Seng Primary’s Green Movement Program, Mdm Afidah invited Earth Society to conduct an Assembly talk for their students on 11 Jul.
This is the 2nd year Gan Eng Seng Primary invited us to talk to the students.

On 11 Jul, Earth Society team reached Gan Eng Seng Primary at 11 am.
We conducted a “Environment Conservation” talk for P3 to P6 students from 11.15 to 11.45 am. We presented on Overfishing, Deforestation, Green house gas emissions and introduced various Environmental Heros to the school cohort. (e.g Dr James Hansen, Dr Jane GoodAll, Sea Shepherd etc.) Teachers and students listened attentively to the talk.

Students’ Feedback:

I found the talk interesting as I have learnt that the fishing net that the commercial fishing boats use can fit the size of 13 planes. As a result, overfishing takes place and many lives of fishes are wasted.   - Ivan Koo, P6, GESP

I feel that it is a very inspiring talk.  It teaches us what we can do to help the Earth. We should have more of these talks so that we can learn the steps that we can take to save the environment.  - Germaine Koo, P4, GESP

The assembly talk was very interesting. I learnt that animals are soon going to be extinct if we do not play a part to help them. I have also learnt that to produce and consume one burger, it will release a lot of greenhouse gases. As humans, we are smarter so we should help. One way to help is by practising Veggie Thursdays.  After the assembly talk, I am inspired to play a part to help the Earth.  - Fitri Zarafyna, P4, GESP

Teacher’s Feedback
The talk provided pupils with a lot of interesting information on effects of overfishing and deforestation. The use of videos was helpful in enabling pupils to understand the content better.    - Ms Anastassia, Teacher, GESP
